FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS
What is infrared sauna therapy?
Infrared light is the invisible part of the sun’s spectrum. It is completely safe and healthy and although infrared light is a naturally occurring wavelength of the sun, it does not contain the harmful UV rays associated with unprotected sunlight. In fact, one can be exposed for hours without the risk of burning and it is so safe, hospitals use infrared to warm newborn infants.
What is the difference between Infrared Saunas and Traditional Saunas?
Infrared heat is a very soothing and gentle heat. Unlike traditional saunas which operate in excess of 180⁰ F making the experience unbearably hot and claustrophobic, Sunlighten Infrared Saunas have the benefit of being effective at a more comfortable operating temperature of between 110-150⁰ F. Traditional saunas only heat the air in the cabin whereas our sauna penetrates deep into your cells giving you a deep detoxifying sweat. Because infrared heat penetrates deep into tissues versus just the surface of skin, our Infrared Sauna is seven times more effective than traditional saunas for detoxifying the body. By raising the body’s core temperature, our sauna can produce a sweat composed of 20% toxins compared to 3% with a traditional sauna.
What should I wear?
During your session, you can wear as much or as little as you would like while in the privacy of your own sauna room. Most people are completely nude, however. We recommend wearing comfortable and loose fitting clothing to your appointment because after your session, you will be hot and sweaty and tight fitting clothing can be difficult to put back on.
Do you provide showers?
No, we do not provide showers. In fact, we recommend not showering afterwards for up to an hour as you continue to sweat out toxins and cool down. However we do provide a washcloth for you to remove toxins immediately after sauna use.
How often should I use a Infrared Sauna?
This will always depend upon your own individual health and wellness goals. We recommend at least 2-3 times per week. For more aggressive results, 4-5 times per week is recommended. We also suggest visiting the sauna immediately following your workout to see the best weight loss and recovery results.
Should I eat or drink before my sauna session?
We recommend trying not to eat for 60 minutes prior to your session but encourage you to drink plenty of water during the hours before, during and after your sauna session. Staying hydrated is key to sweating a lot and to replenish your body after your session.
